Rafiki’s Planet Watch

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Rafiki's Planet Watch

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a somewhat hidden attraction in Rafiki’s Planet Watch. After boarding the Wild Life Express train you arrive at the planet watch building where the real fun begins. On the ride there you also get to see behind the scenes of where animals live during the night and learn a bit about what it takes to run the park. It’s more of an educational experience as you get to view animals being taken care of right in front of your eyes. There is a section that features a glass window where many animals are taken care of and some vet checks are often done there. If you want a somewhat Epcot experience while in Animal Kingdom, and a nice train ride as well, check out Rafiki’s Planet Watch. You’ll cool off, have some fun and learn a lot about animals!

Primeval Whirl

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Primeval Whirl

If you thought that Dinosaur was scary then check out Primeval Whirl in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. It isn’t as scary as you would think, but after spinning around several times and being whipped around tight bends you might be scared of yourself! The ride is a fun one, sometimes painful, but very very fun. Similar to those roller coasters you may see at the state fair, Primeval Whirl features two side by side roller coasters that take you through a more fun filled time warp to the death of the Dinosaurs. So if your kids are too scared to ride Dinosaur and you aren’t scared of being beaten up a bit, check out Primeval Whirl. I’m sorry in advance if watching the video makes you sick!

Flights of Wonder

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Flights of Wonder

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to a very interesting bird show called Flights of Wonder. The show is a mix of education and fun as the bird handler introduces several different species of bird to those who attend the show. The birds are usually fairly well trained but occasionally one flies away, making for an even more exciting show! Half way through you’ll meet a tour guide who lost his group. He’s really part of the act, scared of birds and adds a lot of laughs. The end of the show features a visit from a bald eagle as it swoops over the crowd along with several other birds who fly around the audience throughout the show. The entire show is below and gives you a great feel of what Flights of Wonder has to offer!

The Universe of Energy

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Epcot & Universe of Energy

Epcot is home to the Universe of Energy, a movie-ride that takes you through the creation and use of energy. It’s probably more relevant today then ever before with everyone trying to conserve energy and with Ellen DeGeneres as your host you’ll be in for one funny, yet possibly scary ride. After watching the pre-show, you’ll enter Ellen’s dream as Bill Nye the Science Guy helps her learn about energy, in order to beat her college roommate “Stupid Judy” in Jeopardy. It’s a fun, but long ride that will take you on a ride through the age of the dinosaurs. It’s less scary then Dinosaur but still amusing. If you have the time, watch the full ride through below. But don’t say I didn’t warn you that it is very long!

Pangani Forest Exploration Trail

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Pangani Exploration Trail

The Pangani Forest Exploration Trail is a walking tour where several African animals are encountered. Although Animal Kingdom is said to be “not a zoo” several sight seeing attractions are present with Pangani Forest Exploration Trail being one of them. Some animals you’ll see along the trek are meerkats, African birds, several forms of monkeys, hippos and to top it all off: gorillas. The gorillas are the biggest attraction of the trek as you stand only several feet away between the amazing animals. Only divided by a glass window, you can observe the gorillas in a somewhat natural habitat as they go amongst their everyday lives. Further down the trek a more larger gorillas habitat can be found and you can watch them play and simply watch you as you watch them.

Kali River Rapids

Posted under Animal Kingdom & Kali River Rapids

In Disney’s Animal Kingdom you can experience a simulated example of environmental destruction. The ride begins as you board a raft to drift down “Kali River”. As the boat spins and the speed picks up, you can enjoy the nice scenery and the cooling drench from the waterfalls and guiseres that get you soaking wet. The ride is not your average rapid ride though as Disney threw in a “message”. Half way through the scenery quickly changes from lush forest to destruction and fire. The heat from the fire surrounding you is very warm and you see fake trees and an oil tanker “on fire”. It’s one of the more shocking elements of the ride but a bigger shock is yet to come. As you gently go up a hill lift you realize there is only one way down. Following the lift your raft immediately plummets down hill, resulting in a huge splash and most likely everyone getting wet. Kali River Rapids is a great way to cool off while in the Animal Kingdom and also a nice lesson in environment destruction. The video below gives a personal feel to the ride as well as all the great elements it entails.
